In operation since 1998, the Brescia Waste-to-Energy Plant is recognised as one of Italy’s leading examples of sustainable waste management. Each year, the facility recovers electricity and thermal energy from non-recyclable waste, contributing to more than 70% of the energy supplied by Brescia’s district heating network, making it the main source of heat for the city.
Thanks to an integrated process of material and energy recovery, the plant is a tangible demonstration of how, through separate waste collection and technological innovation, waste can become a valuable resource, feeding into new production and consumption cycles.
During the visit, participants will have the opportunity to follow the entire waste treatment process inside the plant. They will discover first-hand the cutting-edge technologies that make this facility a benchmark at the European level, including the waste collection and mixing pit, the combustion chambers, the turbogenerator that produces energy from steam, the flue gas washing and condensation system, and the advanced efficiency monitoring system.
The visit will also include an exclusive opportunity to engage directly with Fulvio Roncari, Head of the Environment Business Unit at A2A, who will present the Group’s strategy in support of the energy transition and decarbonization.
Finally, Alessandro Carilli, Plant Manager, will guide participants through the most innovative environmental and energy technologies implemented at the facility, as well as the operational capabilities that make it a state-of-the-art infrastructure.
