Philosophy and management.
Persuasion from Plato to Hannah Arendt: Words and Things

This webinar is part of a series dedicated to the search for points of contact between the corporate world and the thought of the great philosophers. Each event will deal with a very topical issue for company leaders, starting from the ideas and reflections of the philosophers of the past, a world far from the managerial one but closer than you imagine.

In this webinar, starting from the theme of language and persuasion, we will discuss the theme of rationality and truth, traveling through the thought of great philosophers: from Gorgia and Plato to Hannah Arendt. Words may in fact seem neutral representations of reality but nowadays it is the same reality that is multiple and varied, as are the different points of view on the world. To be persuasive and create a positive relationship with others it is therefore necessary to first find a shared key of reading, distancing the need to make your point of view predominant.

Is it possible to use words to build a shared perspective, even if we have different points of view? Is the reading of reality inevitably subjective or is there an objective truth? How to best convey one’s thoughts to others?

Answering these questions presupposes, ultimately, asking ourselves if we are already rational beings that we believe we are. Mauro Bonazzi, Professor of Philosophy and author, guides us in a reflection on these points, and on how to use the language and its words consciously and effectively.
