The Italian Economy and Industry: Challenges for Businesses Amid Energy Transition, Labor, and Systemic Shocks

Palazzo Trecchi Via Sigismondo Trecchi, 20 - 26100 CREMONA

The year 2024 has opened with new risk factors for the Italian economy. Despite some positive signals such as high employment and a decreasing inflation, industrial production has experienced a significant decline, in line with the generally negative trends since late 2023. At the European level, the recession in Germany is also concerning. If we add the uncertainty of the global situation to the major challenges already foreseen, such as the energy transition, the current scenario looks rather dark.
However, problems can become opportunities.
How can we manage the ongoing energy transition phase to gain competitive advantages? What are the obstacles to the growth of production in the Italian industrial system? What possible solutions can we explore to get out of the stagnation in which the Italian economy seems to find itself?
The purpose of the meeting is to provide participants with an opportunity to reflect on these and many other questions with the economist Andrea Roventini, who will seek to offer an overview of the critical issues that the industry must address before proposing concrete solutions.
In particular, the following topics will be addressed:

  • An industry without industrial policy: challenges and opportunities on the horizon
  • The energy transition between shock and growth opportunities
  • Putting work back at the center: industry as the foundation of society.
